Notebooks or desktops, er... both!

2007 has been named the 'Year of the Broadband', not without reason. In 2006, between April and September, India bought a total of 2.96 million PCs (desktops and notebooks), registering a growth of 19% over the same period last fiscal. These findings are of the Industry Performance Review for the IT industry, conducted by the Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology. During this period, Notebook sales increased by 180%, while consumption of desktops was up by 8%. The buoyancy was led by high demand from telecom, banking and financial services, education, retail sectors and BPO/ITenabled services. Moreover, PC sales are expected to touch 6.5 million units in 2006-07.
